Matchup to Watch

Byron Mullens vs. Kenneth Faried: Mullens has discovered this season just what a good rebounder he can be. Faried is one of the NBA’s best, both in athletic ability and persistence retrieving the ball.

Observations

• Former Tar Heel Ty Lawson is one of the NBA’s quickest point guards. He’s scored 20 or more in 11 of his last 17 games.

• Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap coached on the Nuggets staff. Now one of Dunlap’s former players at Denver-based Metropolitan State, Patrick Mutombo, is on George Karl’s staff.

• The Nuggets have a very advantageous schedule the rest of the way; Saturday night will be their 31st of 41 road games.

Tap-ins

• This is the Bobcats’ last home game before embarking on a four-game West Coast trip.

• The Nuggets thumped the Bobcats in Denver just before Christmas, winning 110-88. That’s the game when Byron Mullens sprained his left ankle severely.

Did you know?

The Nuggets flew cross-country to play just two games – at Washington on Friday and at Charlotte on Saturday.
