Lewis showed courage

Harnett County Rep. David Lewis should be praised for his willingness to think beyond his conservative ideology and consider the real cost of rejecting Medicaid expansion for the people of his district.

His vote against Senate Bill 4, the bill that would ban Medicaid expansion in N.C., demonstrated courage and, more important, an exercise of due diligence to understand the detrimental effects it will have on rural hospitals like the one in his district. Just think how much suffering could be alleviated in N.C. if all of our state’s lawmakers could follow Rep. Lewis’ example of thoughtful, thorough governance?
