Recap: Lamar vs. Texas State

Joel Wright finished with 27 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four blocks to propel the Texas State Bobcats to a 74-61 win over the Lamar Cardinals in non-conference action as part of the annual BracketBuster event at the Montagne Center.

Deonte' Jones added 19 points for Texas State (8-19), which also received a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds from Matt Staff. The win snapped the Bobcats' five-game losing streak.

Amos Wilson scored 19 points to lead Lamar (3-24) as it suffered its fourth loss in a row. Stan Brown registered a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Cardinals.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 31-17 lead just over 12 minutes after tip-off, but the hosts narrowed the deficit to go into the intermission trailing, 39-29. Texas State held a 20-6 edge in points in the paint in the first half.

The visitors stayed in front by a double-digit margin for the entire second stanza as they limited the Cardinals to 35.3 percent efficiency from the floor after the break.

Texas State outscored Lamar, 27-0, from beyond the arc to coast to the decision.
