Pennetta falls in first round at Acapulco

Seventh-seeded Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain was a first-round winner over former champ Flavia Pennetta at the Mexican Open tennis event on Monday.

Dominguez Lino earned a 7-5, 6-3 win over Pennetta, who was the 2005 and 2008 champion here and also a runner-up five times, including last year when she lost to fellow Italian Sara Errani.

Fourth-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania needed three sets to get by Croat Ajla Tomljanovic, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, on the red clay at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess.

Kiki Bertens, the highest ranked Dutch player on the WTA Tour, is seeded fifth this week and earned an easy 6-2, 7-5 victory over Canadian Sharon Fichman.

Bulgarian-born Sesil Karatantcheva downed Ximena Hermoso of Mexico, 6-0, 6-3, and Spain's Estrella Cabeza Candela defeated Maria Joao Koehler of Portugal, 6-2, 6-0.

This week's top seed is the reigning Acapulco champion, 2012 French Open runner-up and last week's Dubai runner-up Errani.

The 2013 Acapulco champ will collect $40,000.
