Smithfield fire damages townhouses Tuesday night

Published: February 27, 2013

— One townhouse unit was damaged by fire and others were hit with smoke and water damage and lost power Tuesday night in a two-story building in the 100 block of Landmark Drive, officials said.

Johnston County emergency officials said they received numerous calls after the fire was spotted at 10:32 p.m.

No one was hurt in the blaze, which was brought under control an hour after it began, firefighters said.

Officials contacted the Red Cross to help people who had to evacuate several units in the building, firefighters reported.

The incident involved apparatus from the Smithfield, Wilson Mills, Selma and Four Oaks fire departments and the Johnston County fire marshal, officials said.
