Patrice Bergeron netted the game-winning goal with 1:22 remaining in overtime, giving Boston a 2-1 victory over Ottawa at TD Garden. After a right-circle faceoff win, Bergeron redirected a point drive from Dennis Seidenberg between Ottawa goaltender Robin Lehner's pads. The puck trickled through the crease and appeared to barely make it totally across the goal line before eventually being pushed further into the net. There was no audible whistle to halt action, and play was not stopped until an official behind the cage waved his hands to indicate a review. After a brief check, the goal stood to end the contest. Nathan Horton notched the other goal and Tuukka Rask stopped 30 shots for the Bruins, who have won five in a row and eight of their last 10. Jim O'Brien tallied and Lehner made 44 saves for the Senators, who saw their five-game win streak halted.

Final Score: Toronto 5, NY Islanders 4 (OT)

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Dion Phaneuf scored the winner just 71 seconds into overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 5-4 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday. In the extra session, Mikhail Grabovski sent a pass from the right corner back to the point for Phaneuf, who skated down to the circle and snapped a shot that just trickled past Evgeni Nabokov for the win. Nazem Kadri netted the first hat trick of his career and James van Riemsdyk also scored for the Maple Leafs, who have alternated wins and losses in their past seven games. James Reimer made 23 stops in the win. Kyle Okposo had a goal and two assists while Andrew MacDonald added a goal and an assist for the Islanders, who have dropped their past three games. Nabokov was charged with all five goals on 28 shots.

Final Score: NY Rangers 4, Tampa Bay 1

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Rick Nash provided the New York Rangers the lift they needed in his return, registering a goal and an assist to spark a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning that halted the team's season-worst four-game skid. Nash, who sat out all four matchups during the aforementioned 0-3-1 skid with an undisclosed injury, helped trigger an impressive all-around effort in which the Blueshirts racked up 42 shots and led from start-to- finish. Ryan McDonagh, sidelined for New York's most recent loss on Tuesday with a facial laceration, was also back and made a contribution, finishing with two assists in the win. Carl Hagelin, Derek Stepan and Marc Staal also had goals for a Rangers team that received a solid 24-save effort from Henrik Lundqvist. Martin St. Louis accounted for the lone goal in Tampa Bay's third consecutive loss, with a busy Mathieu Garon recording 38 saves in defeat.

Final Score: Carolina 4, Pittsburgh 1

Raleigh, NC (Sports Network) - Jiri Tlusty scored two of Carolina's three second-period goals and added one assist, as the Hurricanes posted a 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at PNC Arena. Eric Staal registered a goal with two helpers and Cam Ward made 26 saves for the Hurricanes, who have won two of their last three games. Marc-Andre Fleury surrendered all four goals on 29 shots in Pittsburgh's second straight loss. Thursday's contest marked the first time Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal and Penguins forward Brandon Sutter faced their former teams since both made up the key components in last year's draft-day trade between the clubs.

Final Score: Buffalo 4, Florida 3 (SO)

Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - The Florida Panthers tied the game late, but Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville each scored in the shootout to lift the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-3 win Thursday night. Down 3-2 after a goal-happy opening frame, the Panthers pulled even when Brian Campbell beat Buffalo's Ryan Miller following a faceoff win with a slap shot from the left point at the 18:34 mark of the third period. Jose Theodore stopped 15 shots through regulation and overtime after replacing of an ineffective Scott Clemmensen in the Florida crease, but the veteran goalie failed to make a save in the shootout. Miller recorded 40 saves and stopped both of the Panthers attempts in the tiebreaker.

Final Score: Winnipeg 3, New Jersey 1

Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - Andrew Ladd netted a pair of goals, including the go-ahead marker with 8:01 left to play, as the surging Winnipeg Jets came through with a 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils at MTS Centre. Ladd also assisted on Blake Wheeler's empty-net clincher with 35.8 seconds left, and tied a franchise record by scoring eight seconds after the opening faceoff to help Winnipeg stay hot in its return home following a 4-1-0 road trip that included a 4-2 triumph over the Devils on Sunday. Ondrej Pavelec did his part as well, with the Jets goaltender turning back 22-of-23 shots in a sharp performance between the pipes. While the Jets remained on a roll, the Devils continued to slump after suffering their third straight defeat and falling to 1-4-1 over their last six outings. Andrei Loktionov accounted for the lone New Jersey goal, with Johan Hedberg stopping 18-of-20 chances in the setback.

Final Score: Chicago 3, St. Louis 0

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Jonathan Toews tallied twice, while Corey Crawford and Ray Emery combined on a 21-save shutout, as the Chicago Blackhawks kept their historic start rolling with a 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday at Scottrade Center. Crawford stopped all six shots he faced in the first, but appeared wobbly as he went to the locker room at intermission. Emery entered to start the second and saved 15 shots over the final two frames to extend Chicago's record-setting, season-opening point streak to 20 games at 17-0-3. Andrew Shaw scored once and Marian Hossa added a pair of helpers in the Blackhawks' seventh straight victory overall. Jaroslav Halak allowed all three goals on 23 shots for the Blues, who have dropped three of their last four games.
