Thelma Ennis Butler

The funeral for Thelma Grace Ennis Butler, 100, who died Friday night at Mayview Convalescence Center in Raleigh, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Dunn.

The service will be at Lee's Grove Baptist Church, where Mrs. Butler was a longtime member and Sunday School teacher. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Dunn.

Mrs. Butler, the eldest of eight children, was born in Harnett County on Sept. 7, 1912, to Bertie and Orestes Ennis. In 1930 she married Riley Albert Butler Sr., who preceded her in death. She was a life long resident of Harnett County except for the past few years when she lived with her daughter in Raleigh. She worked for Erwin Mills in Erwin and retired at age 76 for the Dunn Hospital Pharmacy after working there for 20 years. Last fall she celebrated her 100th birthday at a large gathering at her church in Dunn. She was known for her congeniality and her keen sense of humor.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca Anne Butler and Riley A. Butler Jr., both of Raleigh; and a sister, Jewel Ennis Byrd of Lillington.

Skinner & Smith Funeral Home of Dunn is handling arrangements.
