Richard Clerkin: Unfavorables up

Unfavorables up

The March 4 Under the Dome’s snippet “Poll shows improvements for McCrory, legislature despite criticism” was mis-headlined. The data show nothing of the sort. The previous favorable rating for the legislature is within the margin of error of the most recent poll, indicating there is not a statistically significant difference between the two ratings. While the governor’s previous favorable rating is 1 percentage point outside of the margin of error, this represents at best a small marginal increase.

The bigger story is the movement from the undecided to the unfavorable category (11 percent to 28 percent) for voter’s opinions about the governor.

Why bury the lead? I expect a bit more critical thinking from Under the Dome than just publishing a Civitas news release.
