— Elisa Baker, who already is in prison in connection with the death of her stepdaughter Zahra Baker more than two years ago, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute prescription drugs.

Baker, 44, is serving a term of between 14 years 9 months and 18 years six months after pleading guilty in September 2011 to second-degree in the death of Zahra Baker.

Elisa Baker had been indicted in May 2011 by a federal grand jury, after investigators accused her of being part of a group that distributed Hydrocodone, Oxycodone and Xanax pills over a four-year period ending in October 2010. Baker entered a guilty plea in January 2012 to one count of conspiracy.

Elisa Baker gained nationwide notoriety for the case of Zahra Baker, who disappeared from her family’s home in Hickory in September 2010. Parts of her dismembered body were discovered about six weeks later, and her skull was found several months ago in Caldwell County.

Monday’s sentencing hearing was not related to the Zahra Baker case.
