Tristan Carey scored a game-high 21 points on Tuesday, as Longwood knocked off two-time defending tourney champion UNC- Asheville, 87-72, in the first round of the Big South Tournament at HTC Center.

Karl Ziegler and Lucas Woodhouse netted 17 points apiece, while David Robinson added 15 points for the Lancers (8-24), who advance to take on Virginia Military in Thursday's quarterfinal round.

Jeremy Atkinson led the way for the Bulldogs (16-16) with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Keith Hornsby followed with 14 points for UNC-Asheville, which lost six of its final seven games to close out the season.
