More like morsels
Under the Dome recently reported on the rich retirement benefits of legislative leaders. Their retirement is based on their equally rich pay as leadership. Ordinary legislators, of which there are many more, earn a salary of $13,500 a year on which our retirement is based – hardly extravagant. In addition, our pay has not increased since 1994.
So please don’t write one of those “eating at the public trough” reports about those who labor in Raleigh year after year, sacrificing in some cases family income as well as time with family. And because of the low compensation, the legislature is comprised of a disproportionate number of retired folks.
