Woman hit, killed by vehicle on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh

— A woman who was on foot in New Bern Avenue was hit by a sport utility vehicle and killed shortly before midnight Tuesday, police said.

The driver told police she did not see Anita Bridges, 53, whose address was listed as Anywhere, Raleigh, on a police report. Bridges’ condition was listed as impaired, and drugs or alcohol are suspected.

Police did not charge the driver of the SUV, which collided with Bridges in one of the middle lanes.

The accident happened on eastbound New Bern Avenue near Seawell Avenue and Cooke Street.
