Evelyn "Nanny" Cross

Evelyn Choplin Cross, 90, lovingly known as “Nanny”, died Thursday. Born in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late James Walter and Lela Frances Smith Choplin.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Highland Baptist Church, Raleigh. Burial will follow at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens, Wake Forest.

Survivors include her sons, Leonard Cross (Debby) of Raleigh, Robbie Cross of Raleigh; Gene Cross (Kim) of Wake Forest and Kerry Cross (Kimberly) of Castle Hayne; sisters, Billie Lowery (Henry) of Wake Forest and Betty Williams (Keith) of Charlotte; brothers, Lewis Choplin (Louise) of Wake Forest and Joe Choplin (Clara) of Burgaw; grandchildren, Melandie Matthews (Mike), Michele Oates (Bill), Erin Gross (Ted), Travis Cross, Braxton Cross (Kari), Kyle Cross, Taylor Cross and Korey Cross; great-grandchildren, Bailey Oates, Macey Matthews, Marlee Matthews, Kendall Oates and Paityn Cross, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Herman Cross, Jr.; brothers and sisters, Cora Bailey, James Choplin, Marlie Choplin, Elton Choplin and Mag Thompson.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
