Recap: UC Irvine vs. Hawaii

Will Davis II paced six teammates in double figures with 13 points as the fourth-seeded UC Irvine Anteaters dismissed the fifth-seeded Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, 71-60, in the quarterfinal round of the Big West Tournament at the Honda Center.

Michael Wilder tallied a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for UCI (19-14), which will play top-seeded Long Beach State in the semifinals on Friday. Travis Souza came off the bench to net 11 points, while Daman Starring, Chris McNealy and Alex Young each poured in 10 points.

For Hawaii (17-14), Vander Joaquim and Hauns Brereton lead all scorers with 18 points apiece, while Brereton added nine boards and four assists as well. Christian Standhardinger had 11 points and eight rebounds for the Rainbow Warriors, who have lost three straight.

UCI dominated the first half, outshooting Hawaii from the field, 58.3 percent to 26.5 percent, as it took a commanding 44-22 lead at intermission.

The tables were turned after the break, with the Anteaters slipping to 25 percent from the field and the Rainbow Warriors making 44.8 percent of their field goal attempts, but Hawaii could not undo its poor start.

UCI outscored Hawaii at the foul line, 23-12.
