Beatrice Mannes: Southern inhospitality

Southern inhospitality

“Yankees.” How many times have I heard that word used in the 20 years I have lived here in N.C.? What is wrong with the people who feel compelled to use this word continually in a derogatory fashion?

Growing up in New York state, I had always heard about the Southern hospitality, the good manners, and I can’t recall one New Yorker ever saying a bad word about Southerners.

If we, the Yankees, are all so ill-mannered, why is it that the bullying and name calling are coming from the South.

Can we not get over this Civil War?
