School charade
Regarding the March 14 article “Bill targets school elections”: Sens. Neal Hunt and Chad Barefoot’s bill is impressive in its wholesale disregard of the intentions of the voters, accelerating the terms of Democrats and lengthening the terms of Republicans on the Wake County school board.
Not only that, but they craft their own districts, effectively taking it upon themselves to gerrymander the board. Why the charade? Why not do away with the expense of elections and simply legislate the installation of their biggest donors?
Certainly Pat McCrory is a kindred spirit. I can’t imagine he would ever veto an honest version of this bill, unless his own big-dollar-donor chief budget writer “advised” against it.
