Robert Tyler Kohl, 89, died on February 27, 2013. He was born in Evanston Illinois the son of Clarence E. and Laura Tyler Kohl and moved to Raleigh in 1937. He graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School in 1941 and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1945.
He worked for a year at WPTF Radio in Raleigh as a writer, director and announcer. He then returned to Illinois and was a producer of educational films for 38 years with Coronet Instructional Media in Chicago, then with his company, Centron Productions, in Lawrence KS, returning to the Chicago area in 1999.
Surviving are his wife, Durema Fitzgerald Kohl, whom he married in 1946 in Raleigh; his son and daughter-in-law, Allan and Katherine Kohl of Coon Rapids MN; his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Jack Dare of Downers Grove IL; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Claire Murvihill, of Chicago Heights IL.
