Bill’s intent clear
Sen. Neal Hunt is misleading voters about his SB 325 that drastically changes the way the Wake County school board is elected.
I wrote to him recently telling him how disappointed I was that his bill would be undoing the elections in 2011. This bill shortens the terms of the five board members elected in 2011 and extends the terms of the people elected in 2009. It is obvious to me his bill, as requested by the Wake County commissioners, is a slap at democracy and also retribution for the firing of Tony Tata.
People who write to him to complain are told that the purpose of his bill is to give parents with children in different schools in different districts representation by two board members, because he has included two at-large seats.
I am insulted that he thinks voters can’t see the real reasons for his bill. His friends could not win the election, so they will change the rules.
