Jane Voss Van Syoc

Jane Voss Van Syoc, 94, passed away peacefully the morning of March 17, 2013. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Peter and Anna Van Dyke Voss. She married her college sweetheart Orrin Jay Van Syoc who preceded her in death in 1987. She is survived by their three children: Pamela Schrader and husband John of Raleigh, Robert Van Syoc and wife, Amy of The Sea Ranch, CA and Rodney Van Syoc and wife, Merrie of Los Altos, CA. She has 6 grandchildren: Michael Schrader; Karen Schrader Arnold, husband, George; Mark Schrader, wife, Kara; Lori Schrader Register, husband, Brian; Jay Van Syoc; William Van Syoc; two great grandchildren, Sara and Hailey, and three great grandchildren on the way.

Jane and Jay were married 45 years. Together they enjoyed traveling with their children, playing bridge, square and ballroom dancing, church activities, and especially being with family and friends having fun. Both taught school after attending Western Michigan University. Jane supported her husband as he went through University of Michigan dental school on the GI bill. Jane loved children and often spent time with her grandchildren – singing, dancing, watching sports, playing games. They loved to be with her too. She also volunteered with Blood Bank, Bronson hospital gift shop, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels, Circle activities at St. Mark’s UMC, helping with children at Community Bible Study, gardening, and being with people. She was happy with the many friends she made in her last days at The Heritage of Raleigh.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 1pm followed by the funeral at 2pm at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4801 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC, 27609. Burial will be at Pine Forest in Wake Forest after the funeral.

In lieu of flowers donations to St. Mark’s UMC, or Alzheimer’s Association would be welcomed
