Dollar’s bill shameful

I am truly amazed that Rep. Nelson Dollar, a Republican, would propose a law that would take away from local government the ability to control local building standards (“Housing standards take hit in House,” March 20).

And hooray for Wake County mayors for acting to stop such an effort!

Just as a homeowners association needs to have some control over what is done in its neighborhood, so too does each town and city need to have control over the qualities of homes and other buildings built in their areas. Dollar’s attempt to take away such control smacks of very excessive government intervention, something that Republicans usually decry. Shameful!
