Saturday was a busy day for Louisiana Derby contenders as several took to the track for workouts at Fair Grounds Race Course. The 100th Louisiana Derby is next Saturday.
Trainer Al Stall Jr. had Sunbean work a half-mile in 48 1/5 seconds and the 3-year-old galloped out five furlongs in 1:02. Sunbean won the Gentilly Stakes at Fair Grounds on Feb. 23.
Ground Transport, winner of his last two starts, worked six furlongs in 1:12.60. The colt is trained by Mike Stidham and will be ridden by Mark Guidry on Saturday.
Whiskey Bravo, trained by Keith Desormeaux, covered a half-mile in 48 3/5 seconds. The chestnut colt has one win in four starts.
Trainer Bobby Barnett will send Hip Four Sixtynine to the Louisiana Derby after the colt broke his maiden last month. On Saturday, Hip Four Sixtynine went five furlongs in 1:00.20.
