The Quill names top writers

March 24, 2013

Northwood High School in Pittsboro was named the first-place winner among high schools in the state level of The Quill competition.

The on-demand writing competition gives students 90 minutes to write in response to a prompt.

The Northwood team was comprised of Frances Beroset, Quinn Kersher, Jacob Friedman, and James Calhoun. James was recognized for individual achievement in the Problem/Solution category.

To get to the state competition, hosted by Lexington High School, Northwood’s team first won the High School East Region competition earlier this year. There, Frances finished first for the Argumentation prompt, Jacob was the second-place winner for Literary Analysis, and James finished second in the Problem/Solution prompt.

The Quill competition is sponsored by the N.C. Association for Scholastic Activities.
