Five days before the $1 million Louisiana Derby goes off at Fair Grounds, race contender Proud Strike had his final workout for the 100th edition of the 1 1/8-mile race.
Trainer Steve Asmussen had Proud Strike, eighth in the Risen Star, cover four furlongs in 50 2/5 seconds on Monday morning.
Risen Star runner-up Code West, trained by Bob Baffert, worked at Santa Anita on Sunday. The 3-year-old went five furlongs in 1:00 1/5.
Sunday morning at Palm Meadows Training Center, trainer Todd Pletcher sent out Palace Malice. Working five furlongs, the colt was timed in 1:00 4/5. Palace Malice was third in the Risen Star and has been in the money all four starts.
"I thought Palace Malice worked super, finished up great and galloped out strong," Pletcher noted. "It seems like he's been doing really well since the Risen Star. I'd say he's improving, but he's always trained really well and we've had really high hopes for him and he has performed."
Withers Stakes winner Revolutionary worked a half-mile in 48 1/5 seconds for the Louisiana Derby on Sunday.
"I thought he went super. He was well in hand," Pletcher said. "He's coming up to the race in good order."
