Emma M. Batchelor

Emma Louise McDougald Batchelor 92, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 22, 2013. She was born December 18, 1920 in Richmond County, NC the first of nine children of the late Zeb and Annie Roller McDougald. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis T. Batchelor; brothers Zeb McDougald, Monroe McDougald, Jack McDougald; sister Lucille M. Mosby.

Emma is survived by her children Dora Collier and husband Bernard of Nashville NC, Pat Gupton and husband Frank of Rocky Mount NC, Butch Batchelor and wife Connie of Gloucester,VA; 6 grandchildren: BW (Ann) Collier, Lynda (Tim) Taylor, Bob Gupton, Michelle (Bob) DiSanti, Sherry (Jim) Brown, Andy (Tara) Norton; 11 great-grandchildren; Laura Collier, Sam Collier, Katie Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Brandon Taylor, Josh Brown, Nicholas Scavia, Luke DiSanti, Shianne DiSanti, Caeden Norton, Dylan Norton; sisters Eunice Davis of Clemmons, NC, Shirley LeGrand of Bethany, OK, Sara (Gene) Poston of Rockingham, NC; brother Jimmie McDougald of Lillington, NC; numerous nieces and nephews, and special double first cousins, H.D. McDouglad, Bill McDougald, and Vivian M. Poplin.

Emma was a member of Momeyer Baptist Church. She retired from Nash-Rocky Mount Schools with 25 years of service. She remained a member of NCAEOP where she served as local, district and state president. Emma enjoyed reading, traveling, “digging” in her flowers and cooking fried chicken for her family. She traveled nationally and internationally with family members and with the Friendship Force. Her favorite trip was with her children to Scotland where they visited numerous famous sites in their “people” car and walked about the ruins of the McDougall castles at Oban, the homesite of Clan McDougall.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 10 to 11 am at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 11:30 am at Forest Hill Cemetery, Nashville, NC with Mr. Ronnie Pace of Momeyer Baptist Church officiating.
