Bill Mannheim: Trained security best

Trained security best

Your March 18 “Talking Point” implied that parents would be more comfortable with school safety efforts such as electronic locks and cameras than armed guards. I don’t understand this.

When I was growing up, my parents would take me to the city to shop or for a medical appointment. They always told me not to wander off, but if I did and got lost, they told me to find a police officer. I thought the safest and best protection for me was an armed and uniformed officer.

Our police put on their uniforms and guns each day and put their very lives in danger to protect us. Why is it that some people want their children to think that guns are always “bad,” even in the hands of trained police? It is sad to see “political correctness” stand in the way of common sense and safety for our children!
