Eva Eliel

Eva Eliel, 89, of Chapel Hill, died Saturday afternoon, March 23, 2013 in Chapel Hill.

Born in Hamburg, Germany, Eva came to the United States in 1937. She graduated from Hunter College in New York City and then worked for Time magazine before moving to South Bend, Indiana in 1949 when she married Ernest L. Eliel. They moved to Chapel Hill in 1972, where Eva subsequently volunteered as a classical music announcer at WUNC. A long-time member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, Eva became an Honorary Life Member in 2012. She was also involved in Democratic politics and was active for decades in the League of Women Voters.

Eva is survived by her daughters, Ruth Eliel (Bill Cooney) and Carol Eliel (Tom Muller) of Los Angeles; and grandsons, Ben and Sam Muller.
