Thomas Patrick Nugent

Thomas Patrick Nugent, age 81, of Cary, entered into eternal peace on Saturday, March 23. Devoted husband of Marilyn (Carmichael) for 57 years, beloved father to Kathleen (Jeff) Keller, Kevin (Tracy) Nugent, Patricia (Michael) Heisterkamp, revered grandfather to Thomas, Ryan, Shannon and Margaret Keller, Emma Rose, Colin and Olivia Nugent, John Connor, Nicholas and Cara Heisterkamp. He passed away peacefully at home following a year-long battle with cancer. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Tom played football for Eastern Michigan University. After graduation served in the U.S. Army. He had a 30 year career as a Labor Relations Executive at Ford Motor Company. He relocated to NC in 1993. Here he served as President of the The Friends of Ireland, and enjoyed many years teaching at The Healing Place in Raleigh. He worked tirelessly with the homeless, starting a non-profit, Enabling Resumes, to help them find employment and a better life. Tom loved golf, boating and the seashore, where his family will share a private interment. His laughter, his whistle and his kind heart will be forever missed. Family and friends will be received at the Funeral Mass at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 3008 Old Raleigh Road in Apex at 2 p.m. Wed., March 27. Reception to follow at the Heritage Pines Clubhouse, Heritage Pines Rd., Cary, following service. Memorial contributions may be made to The Healing Place, 1251 Goode Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
