Margaret Maron: Solar power beneficial

March 26, 2013

Solar and sips

Our state’s current administration encourages fracking, which has huge proven possibilities to contaminate our ground water and aquifers, yet is discouraging the production of solar energy, which has huge proven possibilities to lessen our dependency on fossil fuels?

When Jimmy Carter was president, he gave us tax credits to begin converting the nation to solar energy. My husband and I used that credit to buy two small panels for a water heater. We would have done more, but of course Ronald Reagan gutted that program and set development back for years. (He even had the solar panels removed from the White House!)

Thirty years later, those same two solar panels are still heating our water and have paid for themselves many times over. And they aren’t contaminating our water supply.

Try drinking gas, governor.
