Bill should be subbed
I have but one thing to say to Sen. Phil Berger: substitute teach a few days a week and then offer some suggestions on educational reform but not until then.
I have offered this as a suggestion for years to no avail. Politicians could not handle a classroom of regular kids. Heck, some would be unable to even handle an honors class.
My suggestion is that any person involved with any educational decision, spend three days a month in a classroom as part of their job description. Mike Ward, a former state superintendent, made a point to be in a classroom at least once a month, not as an observer but rather to actually teach. He was a leader not a pontificator.
Let Berger, the expert, do the same, and just maybe he will gain a better appreciation of public school teachers and stop with the purge he seems to be so intent on.
