Peter Aitken: The real Dix plan

The real Dix plan

Is anyone naive enough to believe that, if the Dix lease is revised, the proceeds will really go to improve mental health services? Oh, the money will go to mental health, to be sure. However, this is a transparent and cynical ploy by the Republicans to gain support from mental health advocates.

I believe that the Dix lease funds will not be new, additional funding to improve services but rather will be a replacement for funding that currently comes from general tax revenues. The result will be that the status quo of inadequate mental health services will continue and, with fewer tax dollars going to care for people, the Republicans can give even more tax breaks to businesses and the wealthy.
