DURHAM COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

— Christopher Eugene Hill, 34, of Durham was in police custody Wednesday on charges that he seriously wounded a man in a shooting in a grocery store’s parking lot late Monday afternoon.

Police said the victim was shot outside the Los Primos store near the corner of East Main Street and South Alston Avenue, where officers were sent at about 5:10 p.m. to investigate a disturbance involving a gun.

A few minutes later, the man was found shot five blocks west on east Main Street, police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.

Police did not disclose how the wounded man got to where he was found, but they said they established that he was shot in the parking lot.

Officers began looking for a red pickup truck driven by a black man with a “chubby build.”

Later, Michael said, investigators obtained an arrest warrant charging Hill with assault with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon, Michael said.

They arrested him Tuesday.

Hill was being held in lieu of $530,000 bail.
