Death penalty not needed
Do we need a death penalty? I noticed some interest recently in resuming executions in North Carolina. Has there been some dramatic increase in murders due to the lack of executions?
I’m opposed to the death penalty. If a soldier or a policeman or any citizen acting in self defense kills another human being, I see that action as different from executing someone who no longer poses a threat to society. Certainly there are vicious murderers among us who must be incarcerated. But is it necessary to execute them in order to protect ourselves? Would these murderers show us mercy if they were in charge? I doubt it. But that doesn’t mean that we have to be like them. Don’t we want to develop a society that’s better than that?
