Fallen wires after crash stop Atlantic Avenue traffic in Raleigh

From staff reportsApril 5, 2013

— Police closed Atlantic Avenue between New Hope Church Road and East Millbrook Road on Friday morning after an automobile collision brought power lines and a transformer down onto the road.

Police said they were letting people who work in the closed area get around the lines by going through a parking lot.

Progress Energy reported about 500 customers without power in the area.

The accident happened about 7:40 a.m. By 1:45 p.m., all roads had been reopened.

No injuries were reported.

A fire department hazardous materials unit was dispatched to the scene to deal with fluid leaking from the power transformer.

The fallen wires affected traffic lights at several intersections in the area, police said.
