Willard Edward “Frog” Duke

Willard Edward “Frog” Duke, 87, of 2933 Watkins Town Road, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at his home. Frog was born June 25, 1925 in Wake County to the late Otha Henderson Duke and Nora Barham Duke. He attended Rolesville High School and joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during World War II. After his tour of duty, he played professional baseball in the minor leagues. Frog worked with Greyhound Bus Company and retired after 38 years of loyal service. As long as his health permitted, he was a devoted member of Wake Cross Baptist Church.

Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church, 3329 Forestville Road, Raleigh, NC 27616.

Burial: Watkins Family Cemetery, Watkins Town Road, Raleigh.

Surviving: sons, Ronald Duke and wife, Dianne of Durham, Bob Duke and wife, Marsha of Raleigh, Roger Duke of Raleigh; grandchildren, Joshua Duke, Christian Duke, Austin Duke and wife, Amanda, and Casey Duke; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Caden Duke; brother, Jesse Thomas Duke and wife, Lou of Wake Forest; sister, Edith D. Badgett and husband, Bob of Greensboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce W. Duke; brothers, Jarvis, Hildred and Lawrence Duke; and sisters, Louise D. Ellis and Christine D. Arnaiz.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2013 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 and other times at the home.

Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church Building Fund.
