Shirley Alvina O'Melia

Shirley Alvina O’Melia, 91, of Raleigh, died peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Shirley was born May 28, 1921 in Milwaukee, WI to the late Raymond P. Knippel and Marie Frances Loessl. She graduated from Marquette University where she met her future husband of 55 years, James Clark O’Melia, of Rhinelander, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and her brother, Robert Knippel. She lived in Raleigh for fourteen years at Springmoor Village and Brighton Gardens of Raleigh.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Katherine O’Melia Keener and her spouse, J. Keith Keener, MD of Raleigh; Anne Maloney and her spouse, James, of Santa Fe, NM; son, James R. O’Melia and his spouse, Camille, of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was a good home maker for her family; she was much loved for her fresh pies and cinnamon rolls. She also loved gardening and sewing for her daughters.

Private memorial services will be held at Brighton Gardens and at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to "Our Lady of Lourdes Dreams," OLL Church, 2718 Overbrook Dr., Raleigh, 27608."
