Ruth Henderson: No public service

No public service

In response to the April 3 Other Opinion piece “Congress needs a big, fat pay raise”: Did I really read that right?

Even after I completed Daniel Schuman’s piece, I read it again thinking I must have missed the sarcasm. If they actually had jobs in the private sector, they would have all been fired at least five years ago.

They all aspire to one of two things: get re-elected or land the high-paying lobbyist career. Both allow them to keep their benefits that make the private sector scream. Neither has the public interest in mind. If they want more money, there is an easy way – term limits and push them out into the real world. What happened to public service?
