Durham couple arrested, charged with insurance fraud

— A Durham couple have been arrested and charged with submitting false vehicle towing invoices to MetLife Auto and Home Insurance for payment totaling $600.

Terry Louis Johnson, 29, and Sharonda Renee Taylor, 31, both of 14 Oakside Court in Durham are charged with one count each of insurance fraud, obtaining property by false pretense and felony conspiracy.

State Department of Insurance criminal investigators allege that between March and December 2012, Johnson and Taylor submitted at least seven fraudulent vehicle towing invoices.

State officials say an estimated 10 cents of every dollar paid in premiums goes toward the payment of fraudulent claims.
