Saltwater

Oregon Inlet

Offshore boats caught good amounts of tilefish along with reports of albacore, bluefin tuna, blackfin tuna and grouper. Contact: Oregon Inlet Fishing Center 252-441-6301, www.oregon-inlet.com.

Buxton/Hatteras

Inshore, puppy drum are biting with scattered s kates being caught in the near-shore and in the surf. Contact: Red Drum Tackle 252-995-5414, hatterasisland.com; offshore news, Oden’s Dock 252-986-2555, odensdock.com; Teach’s Lair Marina 252-986-2460.

Ocracoke/Portsmouth

Surf anglers found success with large red drum, sea mullet and puffers. Offshore boats reported large amounts of grouper along with a few king mackerel. Contact: Tradewinds Bait & Tackle 252-928-5491, fishtradewinds.com.

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Near Hancock Creek and South River, trout are biting. Offshore, a few wahoo, albacore and blackfin tuna are being caught. Contact: EJW Outdoors at 252-247-4725; ncwaterman.com; or ncoif.com.

Topsail Island

With the weather heating up, offshore boats have reported wahoo and blackfin tuna. In the inlets, speckled trout and flounder are still biting. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887, eastcoastsports.com.

Southport/Sunset Beach

Offshore anglers are still reporting wahoo and scattered bottom fish, with a few grouper being caught . Contact: Dutchman Creek Bait & Tackle 910-457-1221; yeahrightcharters.com; or oifishingcenter.com.

Freshwater

Falls Lake

L argemouth bass are biting on spinner baits and jerkbaits in shallow waters and on deep-diving crankbaits and shaky heads in deeper depths. Crappie could only be described as, “hot as fire,” and are biting on minnows and jigs. Catfish are biting on night crawlers and dough balls. White bass are biting on several different baits in the Eno River. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 252.09, full pool 264.8. Contact: Outhouse Tackle 919-847-1222; wmi.org.

Jordan Lake

Crappie have been caught around the 18-20 foot range and are expected to continue moving to shallower depths with the warm weather. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 216.28, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101; crappie.com.

Kerr Lake

Largemouth bass are biting on crankbaits and jigs at shallow to medium depths with the warm weather in the area. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 303.87, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcats Bait and Tackle 434-374-8381; kerrlake.com.

Shearon Harris Lake

Anglers are reporting largemouth bass biting shallow on spinner baits and plastics. Crappie are biting on minnows between 8-10-foot depths. Contact: The Tackle Box 919-557-8255; wmi.org.
