Nannette Melcher: Carrying on

Carrying on

Regarding your April 13 editorial “Dyin’ dialects”: I grew up speaking Yankee but lived in Kansas and “Missoura” before coming to Chapel Hill 25 years ago, so I was able to understand that when the gas station attendant asked whether I wanted him to put “earl” in my car, he didn’t want me to give a friend a ride.

However, I was a bit concerned when I had a medical problem and a new friend offered to “carry” me to the doctor.
