Tiffany Bair Gillooly: Votes of conscience

Votes of conscience

As a gun owner and staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, I called both of my senators to express that nothing in the proposed legislation threatened my gun rights. It is the least that we can do.

I understand that the gun legislation won’t be able to keep us 100 percent safe, but if it saves you, me or my family, then it would have been more than worth it. I commend the four Republicans who showed great courage in voting for just plain common sense.

I just finished reading the April 19 Other Opinion piece by Gabrielle Giffords, and I was moved to tears. We must, as a country, take partisanship out of these laws that are critical to a civilized society.

My senator did not vote his conscience, but in 2014, you can bet I will.
