What’s Tillman’s agenda?
Well, Sen. Jerry Tillman is at it again in his apparent crusade to systematically dismantle any chance public education in this state would have to succeed. First he introduces a bill to give charter school applicants freedom from having to answer to the State Board of Education and now he wants to eliminate class-size restrictions in K-3 at the same time as Gov. Pat McCrory’s budget does away with teacher assistants in these early grades.
Children can fall irreparably behind in these early grades, and we are now passing laws that will make it even harder for K-3 teachers to identify and deal with children who need more help to keep up?
These moves on Tillman’s part would seem inexplicable given his background as a former public school superintendent. It leaves one to wonder whether he might have any financial interest in private charter school concerns.
