Will Brooks: Allen a servant

Allen a servant

The Raleigh City Council voting not to extend city manager Russell Allen’s contract is unfortunate. I had the pleasure of hearing Allen speak about urban management in two of my public administration graduate classes at N.C. State University. He is the exemplar of a civil servant.

City Council will find another equally qualified manager, but will his successor come and talk to graduate students in the evenings and personally answer emails with a prompt reply?

As an aspiring civil servant, I can only hope to work with a professional manager like Russell Allen.
