Mimi Miller: The Jesus shield

The Jesus shield

While reading about the bill that would allow lobbyists to give freely to lawmakers and not have to disclose it (“Ethics rules for lobbyists may get more lax,” April 12), I was reminded of a past representative.

Rep. Drew Saunders, a Mecklenburg County Democrat, said in an earlier article on the same issue, “Even the baby Jesus accepted gifts, and I don’t think it corrupted him.””

Rep. Robert Brawley and Saunders aren’t the first men and won’t be the last to use religion and their own God-fearing honest hearts to justify their own desires. What a crock!
