I-40 west wrecks in Raleigh bring traffic to near-standstill

Westbound traffic backs up on Interstate 40 at Lake Wheeler Road due to an accident on Monday morning.


— Accidents on westbound Interstate 40 in Raleigh on Monday morning brought traffic to a near-standstill, with the state Department of Transportation posting a notice on its traffic website that the average speed was 10 mph between the Johnston County line and the interchange with U.S. 64 and I-440.

About 7 a.m., an accident involving a car and a truck near the Trailwood Drive overpass closed the right lane of the three-lane strip.

Later, another accident closed the left lane west of South Saunders Street, DOT said.

No serious injuries were reported.
