Dawn Schloot: A unifying run

A unifying run

On April 21, I attended the Boston memorial run along with thousands of my fellow runners in Raleigh. It was an amazing event, and it was particularly wonderful to see all of the running groups, as well as the city, come together to honor those affected by the horrific events that transpired. We bowed our heads for a moment of silence and sang the National Anthem as well. The American flag hanging by the start/finish line was a terrific symbol of unity.

The event reminded us that even if we are vulnerable, we must not let these events deter us from what we enjoy. Having run the Boston marathon in 2003, I look forward to going back there again to visit and enjoy the beautiful city that is Boston.
