L.F. Eason: Greed over guts

Greed over guts

Recently, Neil Heslin, father of 6-year-old Jesse Lewis, described the last minutes of his son’s life in Sandy Hooks Elementary School in Newtown. Jesse faced the gunman and yelled “Run!”. He did this three times, prompting several of his classmates to run and live. Then he was shot, still facing the gun barrel of yet another deranged individual given free access to weapons of annihilation.

How did Sen. Richard Burr compare when given an opportunity to show courage? How did he compare to Jesse’s selfless courage?

Instead of standing up to the NRA with the common sense rebuttal that closing a gaping hole in background checks has absolutely nothing to do with the Second Amendment (a fact clear to 90 percent of the American people), he voted against the Manchin-Toomey plan that may have saved hundreds of children.

Jesse Lewis faced death with courage. Burr and 45 of his colleagues feared the NRA. Each of these 46 senators showed much less courage than a 6-year-old. Sen. Burr and his colleagues were cowards for greed!
