W.A. Hayes: Tower time

Tower time

Regarding the April 17 article “Bill would limit local oversight of cellphone towers”: More and more people, and businesses, depend upon their wireless phones and especially on wireless broadband service.

The wireless companies are all investing a lot of money in growing and improving their networks to give us the service we all want. They need to be able to count on local governments for an efficient and timely review, particularly for making small changes to an existing structure. When a county planner admits that even “minor modifications can get tied up for months in city hall reviews,” it is clearly time for the legislature to step in to support local governments and create a more timely and efficient process that better serves our communities.
