William Everett: Need some numbers

Need some numbers

The April 22 Point of View article “Renewable energy an economic boon” presented a glowing picture of solar and wind farms as desirable sources of electricity.

But, as is typical of these articles, there is no comparison of the cost of electricity produced by these sources with the cost of electricity produced by generating plants powered by coal, oil or natural gas.

Additionally, how much land is to be devoted to solar farms if North Carolina is among the leading states in installed solar power, but its current installations can power only 22,000 homes?

Before we stunt our economy with rising energy costs, let’s have the “scientists” tell us, with some degree of accuracy, just what percentage of temperature rise is actually caused by man.

We might well find that we have been led to be overly excited about a nonexistent problem.
