Triangle pair chosen for new youth orchestra

April 28, 2013

Albert Feng of Raleigh and Sam Sparrow of Durham have been selected for the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America.

Albert will play cello and Sam will play clarinet in the Carnegie Hall-sponsored ensemble, which is in its first year. This summer, they will spend two weeks in residency at Purchase College, State University of New York, then play a debut performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. From there, the orchestra – 120 students ages 16-19 – will tour, giving concerts in Moscow; St. Petersburg, Russia; and London.

Famed conductor Valery Gergiev will lead the orchestra, and violinist Joshua Bell will be a guest soloist.
