John Edwards: No total control

No total control

In response to “Two Americas” published on April 26: I would like to point out a single glaring problem with the writer’s utopian dream.

I don’t think “Teapartyland” will be rejoining you, because if they are governed by the Republican lawmakers that you vilify, they’ll probably just take over “Liberaland” with their attack helicopters since you traded yours in.

I responded to the humorous anecdote with some of my own, as I can’t imagine it was serious. The reason democracy exists is to offer a successful middle ground to the fascist-communist spectrum. Unbalanced governing is unhealthy whether it is liberals or conservatives, and I can’t imagine a world being pleasant with either party in full control.
